Was America ever the greatest country? Maybe. He nails how America is not currently the greatest country but the last bit is largely romanticism. Were Americans better informed? Did they stand up for what was right? All these claims are highly debatable. The American government was every bit as self interested as today. Remember the Red Scare? Reagen beat Carter because he fed Americans the myth of American greatness instead of facing problems. America was/is a good country but not exceptional
