America has waged wars that have killed millions, many of which were fought under false pretenses for the benefit of large corporations.
The alternatives are Europe, Australia, NZ etc.
This is the 21st century. You can’t compare Nazism, Communism etc. to what is happening now.
Oh, that and the fact that we would have gotten to experience the following things if certain other 20th century powers had led the way last century:
Germany: (and the European appeasers) – Nazism all across Europe (and probably the UK)
Soviet Russia: Communism (and gulags) on a global scale
Communist China: Chairman Mao’s “Great Leap Forward” on a global scale
The Middle East (no specific mention): Sharia Law on a global scale
^America = not perfect, but consider the alternatives.
To me, what makes America the “greatest country in the world” (for lack of a more scientific term) is that there is no other country out there that does a better job of taking care of nearly a third of a billion people. Just look at how many people come to America to live from across the world.
Obviously, they’re not going to be “the best” at everything, but they sure have been pulling above their weight for a heck of a long time.

How about balance budget Under Clinton with a Republican lead congress ? Or During Clinton the Repeal of Glass-Steagal that The proposed Financial Services Modernization Act of 1999 did away with restrictions on the integration of banking, insurance and stock trading (which Larry Summers Pushed for). “Allow Wall Street to Govern it’self. Also The National Homeownership Strategy began in 1994 which gave loans to basically anyone and causing preditory loans practices and mortage melt down.
What decade in American history would you like to return to? I guarentee whatever decade it was they had major problems back then as well.

So according to the Jeff Daniels character, America was better back in the days when we were completely dominated by Christianity, slaughtering indians, enslaving black people, oppressing women, killing gay people, drafting people into the military and when we had no social security or unemployment insurance for the poor or even the middle class.
Face it, for all of our drama queen whining; America is better NOW than it used to be.
Yes, it certainly didn’t begin with Bush junior. I would surely go back to Bush senior. You could go back even further and examine the industrial support for Hitler’s war machine by grandpa Bush’s war profiteering, to the point that the FBI had to shut it down. It’s like a cancer.
Of course we’re at a lower point now then we were with Bush. The Bush crime family pushed the snowball down the hill. The Obama crime family is the snowball just a little bit further down the hill. The crime family that comes after Obama will be further down still…
The country is still reaping what was sown in the Bush era. It’s simply fallout and damage control… triage really. That’s the nastiest part of being president right now. The world will pay for decades for that era, regardless of who is US president.
Not to mention the damage done to rights and liberties.
And yet, America is at an even lower moment now than we were during the “Bush era”. Higher deficit, higher debt, higher unemployment, higher disability, higher cost of living (with lower median family income), higher combat mortality rate (that’s right! – bet you won’t see that one on the evening news! – more American soldiers die per month under Obama than under Bush), higher taxes, higher misery index (Remember that? For some reason, it only existed during Bush’s term. It’s higher today), etc.

Actually, mkloppers, it goes back further than ‘the Bush era’ by quite a few decades. Bush, like Obama, Carter, Clinton, et al, was/is just a symptom, the disease started long before with the advent of the Progressive era. And yes, you are correct in that we must get rid of the corrupt politicians and return to the age of Statesmen. Until we get rid of the ‘Chicago-style” politics (which includes places like Philadelphia, NJ, NY, CA, NV, etc) we will continue on our journey to nowhere.

America reached its absolute lowest moment in history during the Bush era. The American people are still suffering for it. The world is still suffering for it.

I love this video its the truth since the early 90’s we have steadily declined as a world power and it may be a scripted scene from an HBO show but the facts in this scene are accurate and to the . Not everything, but a lot of things. Because the connection is almost always evident. Status and privilege affect almost every aspect of our lives, it’s just that most of us aren’t used to seeing our world through that lens.

People from all over the world don’t go to America anymore because neither are any more free than in any European country nor (let alone prosper). Look at the census numbers, Hispanics for instance are leaving the country because back home they are better off these days than here. There is nothing wrong with loving your country or being patriotic but seriously, your claims are not based facts.

First off, there is no such thing as a greatest country. How would you even define ‘great’ ? If you are wealthy, then America can be a great place to live. If your soci-economic status is rather low than America is probably among the worst places you want to be.
Please get your head out of your ass, how aren’t any of these countries ‘great’? Great education, stable economies, a healthy system in which every one gets the care they deserve. Is it because their citizens don’t openly advocate war mongering, the infiltration of other countries, and the breaking of their own laws? I suggest you look beyond the propaganda of your own leaders and realise that you aren’t free at all. And neither are the immigrants who flee to your country to work 3 shitty jobs.

Media outlets and schools play a huge role in this, and big money corporations fund and guide it, because the powerful want to stay high an mighty and their greed knows no limit. I am all for free market economy, but also think that major shareholders, ceo’s etc. should do the right thing, and not shaft everyone else. It’s not just America, the entire world is in trouble and all need to get their shit straight.
in order to make an educated statement you must step back from your ideology, and understand the oppositions. Republican or democrat, conservative or liberal all politicians are the same. The ultimate goal for those people is to keep people misinformed and fighting amongst one another, to keep us divided and blind to the rape an destruction to the core ideologies that made this country great.
In addition, they sank numerous ships of ours. German U-Boats started attacking American civilian vessels and our trade vessels that were going to the Allies. This was as far back as early 1940. I in no way support this guy’s opinions because, let’s face it, he’s an asinine sociopath. Just wanted to say it’s hard to oversell America’s impact in that war. As far as Japan goes, from the research I’ve done, I support the idea that Truman dropped the bombs to intimidate the Russians.
World War II historian here. To be fair, we were on the western front for three and a half years or so. We were critical in Africa, and later in France. Our sheer manpower, along with the Red Army and the Brits, were the biggest forces for the Allies. To say we barely helped is vastly inaccurate. I’m not trying to circlejerk over America in WWII, but we were huge in both fronts. The impact we made in that war is what made us a superpower.
