Mimi Lee, 34, filed a federal lawsuit this month against five Norwalk police officers, accusing them of physically and emotionally abusing her during an arrest May 7, 2009. Lee was arrested and charged with drunken driving shortly after urinating in a hospital parking lot, according to police, but a judge later dismissed the charges. What happened at the police station immediately after the arrest triggered the lawsuit. Lee’s attorney, Daniel Wightman, says officers’ actions were brutal and unprovoked. Norwalk police say Lee was “violently irate,” which prompted them to use force so she wouldn’t assault them. The suit accuses Norwalk police Officer James Montana of choking Lee, bending her over backward, dragging her by the handcuffs, slamming her onto the ground and using excessive violence while she was inside the Norwalk police station. She did not obey commands to do what the officers told her to do and clearly was trying to leave the room. She actively resisted, and she was met with physical control. Don’t want it to happen to you? then do what you are told to do by officers .
