Protest against Portland Oregon police Department, September 17, 2008, the second anniversary of the beating death of James Chasse, at the hands of the Portland Police. Chasse, a mildly schizophrenic man died in the police car on the way to the hospital, after jail officials refused to book him due to his severe injuries. This homicide is only one of many instances where unarmed citizens have died at the hands of Portland police.
well, considering both the paramedics missed such massive internal injuries indicates to me they are far to inept to be served with protecting the public.

Yes, they missed it. that doesn’t change the fact that the police did not intentionally kill him, or the fact that he had committed a crime, ran from officers and resisted arrest.

Be alert people, keep a watchful eye, if police were innocent or justified in the death of James Chasse, then the police would have produced their evidence three years ago! There are some cops who do not deserve to be cops, period!

I notice you didn’t argue with dirty, soft, and passive. During most of the 1990’s Portland, Oregon was ranked in the top 5 consistently in the nations most overweight cities. We had one year at number 2 just behind San Antonio, Texas. As a resident of the NW 23rd area not only do I observe bloated ego’s and fence sitting narcissists, but I observe the lines out the door for Escape from NY Pizza.
Go spend an hour in the parking lot of the 24 Hour Fitness in the Pearl. Never mind that most of the trainers are clinically obese, but people will wait in their car for 15 minutes or more for parking. People coming to “work out”, but avoiding that daunting hike from off-street parking to the front desk. OHSU has been long sought after by magazines like The Skeptic and even Scientific American for studies performed on the obesity epidemic. Where do the get their test subjects?

well, in this case, the intention was to control someone who was actively resisting and fighting them. the intention was not to kill him. as i have said over and over, it is a tragedy that he died, but the officers did not “murder” him as so many people like to claim.
dude, it was the same cop who shot a 12 year old girl point blank with a 12 gauge rubber bullet. right down the street from where i live.
dude, it was a beanbag round, not a rubber bullet. two different things. the girl had just hit another officer in the face and was fighting and kicking at them. he shot her in the leg one time (causing only a small bruise). she then stopped resisting and all use of force stopped at that point. the beanbag round did exactly what it was supposed to do–stopped her from fighting further. the girl’s own mother apologized to the officers for her daughter’s behavior afterward.

it’s not punishment–it is controlling someone who is fighting with you and hitting you. tell me what the officers should have done. what would you do with an out of control kid who just hit you in the face and is kicking at you when you try to take hold of them? since you obviously know better ways than the officers in question.
well, being a father of 3 and my oldest in his teens, i can tell you physical harm, is called abuse. when you yourself was to be smacked by a 12 year old, and you shot her to defend yourself….tell me how you think thats gonna turn out for you in court. what do you think they would charge you with? i can detain my 13 year old son easily without weapons or physical harm…this cop “Nice” is a criminal who assults people, and sometimes kills people…plain and simple

and you are avoiding common knowledge…there is only one way to answer your question, grab and cuff for this cop…its a 12 year old girl for christ sake! If my son pulled that stunt, I sure as hell wouldn’t shoot or beat the shit out of him. It is my responsibility as a parent and adult and a role model for me not to loose control in such a mannor, in order to set a good example. I dont want kids thinking they can hit or shoot some1 when things aren’t going their way….

@420witchdoctor she was actually about 150lbs and had just hit an officer in the face. they did do it the correct way–they got her under control as fast and as safely as possible. she had a small bruise on her leg, that was it. she would have probably been hurt worse if they tried to wrestle with her, or as you would do apparently, throw her through a window.
