(3.7.11) It is a difficult video to watch especially for New Yorkers. It is recorded from the vantage point of an NYPD helicopter and it shows the Twin Towers on September 11th, 2001. The video is shot by a helicopter crew surveying the aftermath of the 9/11 attack. Some people have seen bits and pieces of the startling video. But now the full 17-minute clip has emerged on the web, 10 years after the terror attack. Glimpsing the towers through the helicopter window gives a new persepective on the aftermath, especially when combined with the crew’s shocked voices. The video was obtained by the National Institute of Standards and Technology for their exhaustive investigation into why the towers fell. Watching the newly surfaced clip, Charlie Wolf, a September 11th Family Member who lost his wife during the World Trade Center attack, told PIX 11 News, “It is what it is, we were there. Does it bring back memories of the day, does it bring back feelings, absolutely.” He acknowledged that for many, those memories can be painful saying, “At times we need to remember the past without reliving the past, and I think that’s an important thing. To remember the past so we don’t forget what happened without reliving it.” The video appears to have been leaked by Cryptome a Wikileak-style website that publishes sensitive material.
