Stark County [Canton] Ohio – Hope Steffey’s night began with a call to police for help. It ended with her face down, completely naked and sobbing on a jail cell floor. Steffey says Stark County sheriff’s deputies used excessive force and assaulted her during a strip search 15 months ago, according to a federal lawsuit. Stark County Sheriff Timothy Swanson denies the allegation. Steffey’s attorney says her clothes, including her underwear and bra, were stripped from her body by at least seven male and female sheriff’s deputies and jail workers. She lay face down in handcuffs at the time. “Hope begged and pleaded with her … assailants to stop,” the lawsuit says. “There was no forcible penetration but Hope felt as if she was being raped.” The sheriff denies this was a strip search. The sheriff’s policy requires officers conducting any strip search to be of the same sex. Her attorney, David Malik, said Steffey, 41, was never asked to voluntarily remove her clothes. In an e-mail, Swanson said Steffey was asked to remove her clothes but refused. He said deputies took them off for her own safety. Swanson declined to comment further, saying the details would come out in court. Channel 3 News obtained exclusive video of Steffey’s night in the Stark County jail cell. @gothepus Well first the sheriff claims this isn’t a strip search, he claims its a suicide prevention. But with “missing” video and the camera swinging away, its hard to say just WHAT this really is…well actually it isn’t hard to say, after looking into this case.
The cops are just doing this just to punish Steffey. They knew she wasn’t suicidal, but used that as an excuse to abuse her under the ‘color of law’.

this is something that happens on a daily basis and due to the fact that her husband was in the education field it is FINALLY being recognized. what about all the people it happens to that do not have the exposure this case is getting they are left to deal with it on their own i feel in general this is a widespread event but it is swept under the carpet for the most part what if she had no family to help her expose this?

Leann is listed as the VICTIM and Steffey has the assault charge on her, even though witnesses were there and the cops KNEW she was the VICTIM!! (Its on video even)
The cop also testified under oath that the investigation was never finished, but this shows that to be a LIE.

Amazing that the officer decided he needed to turn his camera on after hearing Boni yell to get their own camera to document his “beating the shit out of her”.
And the excuse that he was concerned about her “aggressive behavior”…AFTER SHE’S ALREADY IN CUFFS!?!
