I wish people would do research. Not only is it not designed to eat bodies, it CAN’T eat bodies. Not only is it not practical, bodies are full of bones and probably external equipment like combat gear and armor, which would destroy the machine if it tried to consume it. It’s like dumping deisel in a gas engine. You people have no idea what you are talking about at all!

@MadForColors, it can’t burn chunks of metal and explosives that would likely end up in it’s system if it ate a dead soldier,and the AI would have a hard time identifying bodies compared to foliage (image recognition is not that good yet, it would probably mistake different things for bodies that would be bad if it tried to consume.) Also, it takes more energy to burn a body then the energy you would get, humans are 70% water.
@Houshalter While “eating dead bodies” is the most discussed thing about EATR, this is not the only fuel for it. I quote from theregister: “system can find, ingest and extract energy from biomass in the environment, as well as use conventional and alternative fuels (such as gasoline, diesel, propane and solar) when suitable.”

@MadForColors, My point is that it is designed to only vegetation. Trying to eat a human body is entirely impractical if not impossible. There is really nothing to worry about.

I was replying to shalter who said that it can’t recognize it’s surroundings anyway enough to pick up bodies and use them for fuel. I was saying it can because it has the capability to identify cars and steal fuel from them, so recognizing dead humans won’t be much of an issue.

You know what else could identify it’s surroundings? A Terminator. And those liked surrounding humans to be dead.
And Houshalter, the most recent design for it had a CHAINSAW. And a grabbing claw. And god knows what else in order to ‘consume and process’ plant biomass. So I don’t see it impossible for flesh and bone to go through that thing.
