They are just middle-men! If you have something to leak, walk into ANY coffee-shop in america and hand out DVDs with secret documents to all the bloggers you find. @DutchPow3r If what they found out about us is that bad then WE obviously weren’t looking for peace anyway…… if the leaks revealed we wanted peace… How would the leak make it difficult… the Leaks are there to show the world that we are NOT looking for peace which in turn gets the people in america to fight for what WE want… this MIGHT give our rep a little harm but NOTHIGN compared to the harm we give ourselves with a 9 year war noone even knows why we’re fighting. @sicklesickle – you’re probably in your 20’s… I hope you are. If you’re any older, you should be ashamed of yourself. You obviously don’t remember Nixon/Watergate or the Vietnam War/Pentagon Papers. Assange made it look easy, but it was very, very difficult and risky. He’s currently in prison and a target of many governments. Just watch the fallout.
@Anet99 I am very familiar with the events you speak of. The difference is that the internet has revolutionized the concept of “Publishing.” Anybody can publish anything, whereas in the past it would have been possible only through an established outlet. I present TYT as just one of a billion examples.
If you find yourself with documents that you wish to release to the world, leak them YOURSELF. Ashamed? For what? If Ellsberg had cable internet it would have been a million times easier to leak.

@sicklesickle Oh boy. People who have classified documents use WikiLeaks because they want to be anonymous. Only that private who leaked all the Iraq War documents is captured (CIA has probably already killed him).
It is just oh so convenient for the government that Julian Assange is now being prosecuted for rape. Oh they don’t care that this rape was under extremely shady circumstances where like he’s guilty even though it was consensual because the condom broke or some stupid shit like that. That is just oh so fortunate for the establishment. and oh btw also is S.O.P. for these thugs. If you can’t kill a threat, discredit them.
@4turrold5 Of course you support him without knowing the facts. The “stupid shit like that” was when he allegedly was told to stop because the condom had broken and he refused. The second case is when he agreed to wear a condom but secretly removed it. Those are both considered withdrawal of consent in Sweden which means he raped them.

@LocoGroove The internet allows anonymity. If done right, it’s difficult to trace anything back to you. Because Wikileaks is under intense scrutiny, it increases the odds that anonymity will be impossible, if you go through Assange. My point is that Assange is just a useless middle-man, like newspapers or television programs used to be gatekeepers to information. Leakers need only upload their files online to the right locations, anonymously, , and censorship will be impossible.
@sicklesickle I don’t feel like Wikileaks+Assange is useless. If you want to release thousands of documents, you probably need to show your identity to prove that those documents are the real thing and I’m pretty sure magazines would require identifying yourself.
@LocoGroove The only purpose any of these “Official” publishers serve is to vet that the leaker is who they say they are. But then, (to use the Afghan docs as an example), if the information is accurate it may stand up to scrutiny w/o the identification of the leaker. The point is that you do not have to PROVE anything to anyone, or ask permission to publish anything! BLOGS. Publishing is in the hands of EVERYBODY now. WikiLeaks is just one giant blog with a focus on leaks. Start your own!

You don’t need to show your identity when leaking documents to Wikileaks. All material sent to wikileaks is reviewed by staff experts employed at wikileaks. If the documents seem doctored or fake then it isn’t leaked.
