Weirton Police Officer Greg Moodie Gets a DUI…. Goes Back To Work


They’re sworn to uphold the law, but one Weirton police officer has decided that he is above the law. His supervisors agree. Officer Gregory Moodie was involved in a traffic crash on US-22 in Weirton that injured an innocent husband and wife. When police got on the scene they smelled a STRONG odor of alcohol on Moodie’s breath, and administered field sobriety tests. They found Moodie had an alcohol level of .144, nearly twice the legal limit to drive. The officer was placed under arrest, and the case was turned over to Weirton police for investigation. Weirton Police Chief turned the case over to the West Virginia State Police becuase he didn’t want the department to be accused of favoritism. The state police did investigate and charged Moodie with drunken driving. “We definatley are held to a standard by the public, and rightfully so, said Sgt. David Robinson of the West Virginia State Police. “We are the ones who enforce the laws, and definitely should obey the laws we enforce.” The DUI is a misdemeanor charge. Moodie faced up to a year in jail and fines but he pleaded no contest Monday to a DUI charge andOhio County Magistrate Patricia Murphy gave Moodie the “Professional Courtesy Treatment of An Officer” and sentenced Moodie to 500 dollars in court costs and fines, and his license has been suspended for a whole 6 months.
