@WiseAli2 Religious people killing evolutionists and vice versa is bad both ways,its an heinous crime to kill people based on there beliefs whatever there beleifs may be,George Bernard Shaw even said you can be on the truth,you can be right and still be an extremist. No one especially me is denying the crimes committed in the name of religion but what gets to me are atheists who think they’re whiter than white and the irony is theyre just as bad as the pople they accuse probably worse!
Meh, why can’t we all get along. AJ is doing nothing to aid cohesion right now, he demonises scientists as if we are all somehow part of a global conspiracy. Well scientists have families to care for like everyone else, a lot of them are religious in fact, so go figure. People are happy to thrive off of the products of science – electronics and medicine, so why not give the scientific community a break. Labeling everyone as sheep or whatever isnt going to win you any support.
Anyone else notice how selective AJ is in who he deems to be a good scientist? It’s always someone who supports his view, heaven forbid he ever be wrong about anything. Always attacking the man instead of the argument. Also, at 2:45 he says he’s ‘studied all of this’. Oh really? You mean you’ve dedicated about 3 years to every subject to bring yourself up to degree level? Who are you to doubt the credentials of a biology graduate? Its a hard subject to do well, so these people arent dumb.
@Stepper11 I’ve already refuted that position. It’s been around for about 25 years and has been shot down over and over again. That Cambrian explosion fits in fine with Evolution; go to CC300 on talkorigins; it demonstrates how your argument (Really Henry Morris’ argument from 1985) doesn’t work. The refutation is backed by about 25 citations from professional peer-reviewed science articles. We don’t have to resort to name-calling.

@Stepper11 I am still very curious. I am also open to the idea that Evolution could be overturned tomorrow. (Not likely to happen) I honestly think your comment represents a kind of bizarre type of projection. In other words, you are taking the characteristics that more accurately reflects your religious zeal and trying to project in on to me…and then attacking it because it’s something that you don’t like in yourself.
@9mmparadox Morality is based on a rational consideration of the consequences of our behavior, not from a Bronze Age war god. Some cultures may have different moral values and for good reason. Other cultures may hold on to either silly or deliberately harmful practices. The latter are usually strongly religious cultures.
That’s why religion is so harmful; it interferes with our ability to rationally analyze the impact that our behavior has on others.
@9mmparadox Oh man…you went “Mere Christianity” on me. Christianity is based on might makes right. Since god created me and can kick my ass, he can do whatever….Right? We are the final authority, and thousands of years of human civilization and well thought out philosophy has shown us that if we all run around raping, stealing and murdering…life sucks for everyone. And nihilism and atheism are totally different. As an atheist, you can believe in practically anything…just not a god.
@WiseAli2 100 million native Americans were killed by Catholics. Stalin was raised in the Russian orthodox church. Mao was an atheist. But was that the motivation behind his atrocities? Hitler and Stalin both had mustaches too? Is that what made them kill? In the case of the genocide in the Americas, religion was definitely a driving force behind the slaughter. OK say a state encourages child beating as morally correct. If for years they beat their children and no other society does differently. The children accept it as the societal norm, they know no different Now by what authority does your state’s morality (that doesn’t beat children) trump the mortality of said state (that does beat)?

@msugda Humans require a balance of emotion and intellect to live most appropriatly. It is true that most of us are ignoring intellect to follow emotional whims due to cultural influence teaching us to go after physical gratifications but too much emotion is not a problem for most of us.
As far as evidence of animals thinking, these tests are taken by humans who have not yet understood the difference between emotion and intellect. How could they devise a proper testing parameter.

@WiseAli2 The problem with this video is that AJ is attacking Darwin instead of the argument. I doubt the ‘100s of millions of deaths’ you speak of, but even if they happened, it doesnt make evolution any more or less true.
Evolution/darwinism doesnt have to replace religion, because they do not have the same aims. In fact I would say that morality is explained by evolution. You don’t need an accompanying belief system, you just have to empathise with others and live a good life.
@WiseAli2 I’ve known about that guy for years. It wouldn’t matter if Yahya had a clean reputation either. The arguments linking Evolution to Fascism are pretty specious. And isn’t he a Muslim?
