How tough would it have been to just show them some ID….I mean really?? A little compliance goes a long way…….being a complete asshole for no reason goes even further
@hellboundinlc225 What if he didn’t have any ID on him, what then? Should he have been arrested? He was not driving a car, and he was not breaking the law, therefore, they had NO RIGHT to ask for his ID! In America a person is not required to show their ‘papers’ like in the old USSR!
@dgunsnfun Some states your required to produce an ID at anytime a cop ask, other states you don’t have to unless your driving.
@policecrimescom It’s a touchy issue for sure, but they still are supposed to have a reason for asking. As of 2008, 24 states had stop-and-identify laws, but regardless of your state’s law, police can NEVER compel you to identify yourself WITHOUT REASONABLE SUSPICION to believe you’re involved in criminal activity. Of course, it’s always your word against the cops, and we all know cops lie!
@dgunsnfun I should clarify that you need an I.D. to drive and ride on an airplane
@dgunsnfun No. No one should be arrested for not having an ID on them, HOWEVER, in this case, …I can assure you that this apartment complex has an issue with people Trespassing, fighting, car burglaries, ..and things of that nature. The owners of the complex ask for a No Trespassing ordinance to be enforced. If the guy is just there visiting or actually lives there, …he didn’t have to go out of his way to be an ass about it, which he did, therefore he was treated the way he was
@1newsted If the owner of the complex had specifically pointed him out as a trespasser, then he should be questioned. However, the police started hassling this guy because he didn’t respond when they said, “Howdy.” to him. That is NOT reasonable suspicion of involvement in crimminal activity. If this guy didn’t have I.D. on him, what should the police have done with him?
@dgunsnfun He could have simply walked to where ever it is he lived and walked in, or un-locked the door with his key and verified he lived there. He began acting like an ass for no reason. WHAT IF police got a call to your house. A neighbor says it looks like a guy is trying to break in. when they get there, he is simply standing in your driveway but refuses to speak, or produce ID. Then what should they do? Leave him there? Walk away?
