Video showing a Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputy slamming a suspect’s head into a wall has triggered a federal lawsuit, and while the sheriff admits the incident shows excessive force, he believes the scuffle was sparked by the suspect’s behavior. John Campagne called police in January 2009 during an altercation with his brother-in-law, but ended up arrested himself and brought to jail. While Campagne was handcuffed in a holding cell packed with deputies, one of the deputies suddenly took his head and slammed it into the concrete wall. Surveillance footage showed his legs jerking on impact and his body going limp moments later. A nurse was brought in to tend to his injuries after he was laid down on the floor. Still pictures following the incident shows him with a black eye and bruised face, and Campagne said he blacked out and cannot remember what happened after the impact. “The video has helped me remember this,” he said. “I’m telling them, ‘I can’t hear you, I can’t hear you’ and I get slammed. And that’s where it goes blank.” Campagne filed an excessive force complaint with the Sheriff’s Department, and Sheriff John McGinness agreed. The deputy who slammed Campagne’s head against the wall was disciplined and has since returned to work. Sheriff McGinness said he doesn’t like the way the incident was handled, but says there was no intent to harm the suspect, adding that Campagne provoked the response. “I see an officer who’s been put in a position through the conduct …
The cop was just trying to sober him up.
who cares goto Africa and Iraq Iran and see what goes on there
Sheriff John McGinnis says there was never any intent to hurt Companion–when banging his head into a cement wall.
So, the sheriff is claiming to know what the officer was thinking, which was something other than the obvious. You see how these trash lie to protect one another.
calling the police is the worst mistake one could ever make. i would much rather deal with a situation myself. it’s a known fact that a lot of cops were high school rejects, who were not smart enough to get into college. and because of that, they lack the ability to do a good job. do cops even know the law? well, how can you read a book of laws, if you don’t actually know how to read?
@JesusDillinger Thank you- I’ve always said that when comments like ‘the intent wasn’t to hurt …etc’ how the hell does the commanding officer know wth the cop in question was feeling or thinking while watching the tape- only after an ‘interview’ with his subordinate would the chief be able to say shit like that- that is a comment birthed from guilt whenever shit like this happens.
@TheAfroQween, Well, that’s exactly right. Motivated by guilt, they make stuff up–like a perp!
@mmcclain88 Actually, cops can read. Not well, but they can. They don’t because they are lazy. Think about it. Have you ever seen any cop doing any kind of productive labor whatsoever?
Everytime the police is caught doing wrong.. They always say it was handled incorrectly but it was cuased by the person…When are the police going to take responsibility for their actions….And they wonder why the police does not have the trust of the community..
Nazi control of the US has begun. Soon it will be legal for them to Kill us at random, and you pussies continually do NOTHING.
I really hate cops.!
how can you put up a poster that says stop police brutality ..when in FACT ..no American will stop this …Americans are well known to be the pussy’s in the world
even Europeans stand up to their government..
oh yea dont provoke a police man while your handcuffed.
@tommysixgunner yep
Disciplined and back at work? Are the other half dozen that were present not accountable for not placing that officer under arrest? Is there a secret brotherhood I wonder? lol.
Sticks n stones n all that, makes a joke out the provocation suggestion later in the vid. Dont take a settlement, take compensation, and get him struck off.
Another great example of why you should NEVER call the cops!
the guys that work inside the jail are not the same as patrol officers!!! this doesn’t excuse them cus what they did was totally wrong but their not cop, “cops”!!
fucken ANIMALS.!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
THE COP IS DISCIPLINED AND IS NOW BACK AT WORK??? WTF???? IS IT GOING TO TAKE KILLING A SUSPECT FOR HIM TO GET TERMINATED???? I HATE COPS!!!! EXERCISE YOUR 2ND AMENDMENT RIGHT AND WE WOULDN’T NEED COPS! JUST A SHERIFF!
The Sheriff is a LIAR.
Shoot first ask second think third Police Motto in the US
Sacramento needs to take control now…. like this sheriff is saying….except they need to take control and beat this cops head in, and the sheriffs, then follow them to the hospital with medical clothing, and inject them with bleach and car oil.
@911dispatcher all sheriffs are liars, im a 911 network administrator for 14 psaps, i know the game ;-)
everytime these superiors try to defend the actions of a brute that works for him …he is saying..Nothing wrong here, it’s business as usual. Now I’m not saying that dude didnt have it coming, I dont know what he said to provoke the brute… but when a cop has trouble controlling himself in a station with a cuffed detainee, with 5 other cops around and a camera recording all his actions, that cop is an even greater threat out there …where it’s just him, his gun and a guy who pissed him off
Fuck police
Love the sheriff’s response suggesting there was no attempt to injure the man. Don’t the rest of you slam peoples heads into a wall to show how much you care about their welfare?
The worst part is that the offending officer was likely put on paid leave pending police “investigation”. For the rest of us, that means paid vacation. What great punishment. He should have lost his job, been barred from any police work in the future, and then been prosecuted for assault and battery.
