Police in Nottingham appear to punch a suspect three times during an arrest, and taser him at least twice. Is this too much? How far should UK police be allowed to go? The susepct is apparently accused of GBH (Grievous Bodily Harm) eg stabbing, but does this excuse the police’s actions, bearing in mind that in the UK a policy of “Innocent until proven guilty” is upheld. That is such an idiotic statement and way of thinking that I’m not even sure where to start. A tazer is supposed to be a less lethal substitute for a firearm, meaning that it’s only supposed to be used when all other options have failed. Other than that, there is absolutely no reason for the police officer to physically abuse the man. The police officer is supposed to use reasonable force and NOT unreasonable violence. The latter is bullying and IMO should be punished severely.
Thanks for displaying how little you (and the rest of idiots posting here) know. In most departments the level of force needed to deploy a tazer falls between the use of OC (pepper spray)and an impact weapon (a baton). In other words a tazer can be used on a subject that is actively resisting. In this video you can clearly see the subject is not only actively resisting arrest, but is also kicking the officers. He is lucky he didn’t get some stick time.
I stand corrected. I assumed the rules governing under what circumstances a taser can and cannot be used were the same in the UK as the U.S. But still, the fact remains that an officer used unnecessary force without the taser (punching the suspect 3 times in the shoulder/arm area). That officer obviously needs to be sacked or disciplined immediately.

Reasons why Police actions were completely justifies, in my opinion:
1) Initially only 2 officers on scene
2) male has history of violence against officers and the public
3) there were concerns he may have been armed
4) Strong verbal commands were made to him several times by both the officer who tasered him, and then by officers attempting to handcuff him
5 ) He still would not comply hence being striked in the arm around 3 times. Perfectly reasonable, proportionate and legal.

This whole situation could have been avoided if the man didn’t resist arrest and did as he was being asked. People bring their own problems on themselves. Trust me, the police don’t want to use force if they can avoid it but unfortunately they often don’t have a choice.
One last thing.
Just because it ‘s not nice to see a member of the public having to be dealt with in this way DOES NOT mean that it is unjustified and illegal.
If you wish to see real unjusitified, irrational and disgusting police violence have a look to FRANCE, SPAIN, ITALY and most other European countries, & the rest of the world.

British officers can only really justify a baton strike(s) for self defence and CS in extreme circumstances (knife attack) where distance from the assailant must be maintained, or if a baton strike is not an option/ineffective against the attacker.
Now then, the use or Taser is a very effective tool as it allows officers to keep distance, has certainly less of an impact upon a subject than a baton strike and is arguably more effective at detaining a very violent/armed individual.
