I don’t know where you live but in SC there is no sales taxes on food items from grocery stores. Just recently passed that. I pay taxes every year but if I chose not to then I could move to a tax free state like Montana. If I really don’t wish to pay taxes on items I purchase I can shop at thrift stores like Good will or go to yard sales and flea markets. There’s no tax on used items.
I’d be happy to be on a jury for a case like this. I know what these guys put up with-crappy pay, stressful working environment, long hours away from their families and a lot more B.S. Anyone who has ever worked retail knows how rude the public can be and often is. Some of them you can never make happy no matter what. These SCHP guys are doing a job I would not want to do myself.
I agree with all your points. That is why I would like to be on the jury also. But you and I would reach a different verdict.
I was listing items in general, not just in the state of South Carolina, where taxes are applied. You can not get away from taxes, in one form or another. You piqued my interests in Montana and other states concerning their taxes. Montana, according to their government web site, has property taxes. A tax web site stated: personal income taxes are from 1 to 6.9 percent (Montana).
All 50 states tax. All have a form of taxation. It does not matter how the state you live in gets it’s tax dollars. Even if the state receives money from the federal government, the federal government got it’s money from the people. If it is your state, the state government and its taxes, are suppose it work for the people. It is your tax dollars.
Those were good ways you posted to pay less taxes. The underground economy has existed for quite awhile and is a way to avoid paying some taxes. But I do not believe there is any way, while alive, not to pay any taxes. Debating about if you have a choice, to me, is moot, you can just pay less.
It would only be an option, to pay taxes, if you were given the choice by the state/federal government as to pay or not pay. Yes or no is a choice. Having to move from the home of your ancestors is not a choice, it is coercion, (“My way or the highway”).
Having to move from your home state or for that matter your county because of taxes, is a horrible thought. Wasn’t one of the reasons we fought the Revolutionary War over taxes?

this isn’t the wild west and it isn’t 1850. it’s 2008 and we are all trying to live in a civilized society. that is why we do NOT put up with crimimals or a**hole cops.
I agree with some of your observations of some of the posts. But calling people names and stating that “level of stupidity. not from a sc state trooper, that’s a given” is not conductive to a “civilized society” or discourse. That type of talk only makes this type of behavior seem justified, because people them assume the “them and us mentality”.

sorry about the 4 letter word, but we have got to make distinctions between them; bad, corrupt cops and the people that apologize for them to no end, and us; people who would rather curse somebody out than run over them. There is a big, huge difference between them and us, and I will always try to point that out. I meet alot of state police in my line of work, and I am usually not impressed by their level of intelligence. there are some good ones, but they are becoming scarce, i’m sorry to say.
The Constitution PROTECTS our rights. It does not give them to us. We already have them.
One right is freedom from unreasonable search and seizure. Police have abused that a lot. Ask Edward Lawson (as in Kolender v. Lawson).
Because of that police abuse, some innocent citizens run from police. Of course, some also run because they committed a crime.
Running from the police does not give the police the right to use deadly force.
This is actually the same cop that was on a dateline special for three other similar situations with hitting people. The one that finally made this all public was when he drove between an apartment complex and nearly hit a man and his son and then continued through the playground where other people were playing. What a disgrace to cops and man kind.
i’m with you man it’s total bull shit that cops can get agay with shit like this all the time. however, living in a small town, a person can become very immune to it. it happens all the time and like i said it’s bull shit. cops like that need to get shot in the foot where it hurts more. bastard. it also goes for every state. i guess SC hi-po’s need to learn how to turn off their camera. i’m surprised that’s not part of their training.

This stupid ass south carolina state trooper trial either started today or sometime this week. He is actually trying to fight the case but the dash cam caught it all, from video to audio. Im not saying the criminal was right for running, but the cop had no right to use his car and then brag to other officers afterward like he just shot a 10 point buck. Welcome to south carolina, if you come to visit watch your ass!

I do not agree with verdict, but at least he was brought to trial. Maybe he and others (LEO) have learned something from this and scared a few from using excessive force.
