I recently sent Archbishop John C. Nienstedt a letter wherein I enclosed, both, a copy of a recent letter that I received from Bishop John Kinney as well as copies of county newspaper letters that I had enclosed with my letter to Bishop Kinney.

Two of the county newspaper letters that I sent to Bishop Kinney and Archbishop Nienstedt:

In my letter to the archbishop, I mentioned that I had met with Kath Langer, the director of the Saint Cloud Diocesan Social Concerns Committee and a member of the Minnesota Catholic Conference, and that I had given her two of my requests for Bishop Kinney. And I also provided the archbishop with a link to a web page with all of my requests for Bishop Kinney.

Yesterday, I received a response letter from Archbishop Nienstedt.

Dear Mr. Dahlheimer,

I am in receipt of your letter of February 28, 2009. I am grateful to learn that you are working with the Diocese of Saint Cloud on your initiative to support the indigenous peoples of our state. I look forward to hearing from Bishop Kinney about this matter at our next Minnesota Catholic Conference.

Yesterday, I sent two e-mails to Chris Liefeld, the Director of the Minnesota Catholic Conference.

The first e-mail was to inform him that I had received a letter from Archbishop Niewnsedt.

The contents of the second e-mail is presented below.

Chris,

The Minnesota Indian Affairs Council asked me to write a MIAC draft resolution supporting the bill to change our state’s derogatory names that are offensive to Minnesota Indians.

I wrote and sent the draft resolution to, both, the MIAC as well as to Alfred Bone Shirt, the director of the Dakota/Lakota/Nakota Human Rights Coalition. And he posted the draft resolution on his organization’s yahoo group site.

I also wrote a draft Minnesota Apology Resolution that is very similar to the MIAC draft resolution. I would like to introduce the Minnesota Apology Resolution to the Minnesota State Government. However, because of the contents of the apology resolution, I would like for the MCC to [first] give its support for the apology resolution before I send it to the governor of our state. Please ask the MCC to give its support behind the apology resolution.

The draft Minnesota Apology Resolution presents information about the papal bull Inter Caetera being the source of the racism against Minnesota’s Indigenous Peoples.
