While we are constantly controlled by the cctv, we do not have right to take photos or videos. I was stopped because I was filming and after a bit I had about 10 cops to deal with me. Even if I was not violent at all, they pushed me face down upon the floor. While they were bringing me to the van, with really tight handcuffs, they twisted my arm to give me more pain.
Get real, why not try living in Iran,Syria, etc. then you would know what a police state is.Although this PCSO is a bit of a twat.
Exactly! Why the attitude? Unfortunately we are living under a terrorist threat.
How do you think all of Eastern Europe got turned into a police state back in the day?
The police and politicians slowly got more and more power and took away all the citizens’ rights and freedoms.
Now it is happening here – we have fewer and fewer civil rights and have little or no political independance from the US and Saudi Arabia- who order our politicians and judiciary around like servants, just like the Russians did with Soviet era politicos in Eastern Europe.
We’re the new Czechs!
Yeah, like cheeking a local copper is sooo powerfully exposing truths about the state. By which measure, chavs up and down the country must be the true fearless campaigners for social justice and should thus receive due approval in the Grauniad/Indescribably. If she really wanted to expose a police state, she should go to Iran where she might potentially do some good in confronting the police. Can’t see her doing that somehow.
You are just a silly student. The police were quite polite to you. All you had to say is I am doing an arts project. Instead you were provocative and stroppy from the outset. Loads of people died on 7/7 and people like you make the job of the police harder. If you don’t like London go back to Italy. You can;t even spell. Serch?? Get back to college.
@Fight4Privacy actually, taking photographs of others infringes on their right to their own image under the European Convention of Human Rights- so no, you don’t have that right
You seem to forget that some people want to bomb and terrorise Britain,And America is very close ally,so what? Remember 7/7 ? That is what accounts for this type of thing, blame them.
do you honestly think that girl was a terrorist?
Get your eyes tested fool, terrorists are crazy fuckers with bombs, not little girls with cameras.
Good for you – these little Hitlers should be resisted wherever possible. My parents fought to prevent us succombing to this form of state terrorism – And the police have become a servant of state terrorism of law abiding citizens of the UK – And PCSOs are the worst – Give them a uniform and they thing the f***ing own us – wel you can f**k right off
@ajgb
For the sake of relevance, just who is ‘us’ (also the film-maker’s ‘we’ as in ‘we won’t be intimidated’)? I think I would be safe in inferring that that would be no-one outside of the sad band of malodorous, shambling misfits you associate with. In other words, nobody.
In the real world, for genuine ‘state terrorism’ go to Iran.
>>’..terrorists are crazy fuckers with bombs, not little girls with cameras.’
Yes, helpfully they invariably wear shades and fedoras and carry large objects with ‘bomb’ written on them.
Then I didn’t know that the fact that I do things just for fun can make incredibly angry someone that doesn’t have sense of humor… Now I learned the lesson: since I do not want to be physically abused, whenever I get stopped and questioned I say what they want to hear… and since having fun can be easily confused with terrorism I do not even mention it… but the reality doesn’t change and I still do things just for fun… I was a lot more sincere before then now but they are happier now!
by the way… I did another spelling mistake! “I was a lot more sincere before THAN now but they are happier now”
You are right! I should go back to college!!!and even if I know how to spell SEARCH there are plenty of things that I should learn… do you know where I can find a good course to learn how I can refrain from being SILLY, PROVOCATIVE and STROPPY before that they change the law and we end up to get a life sentence for such big crimes as having fun or being sarcastic?
agjb:
your completely missing the point mate, but always remember i still love you…
stick around for a hug and a giggle and you will see hoe laughable everything is
peace
@ colwiles
Couldn’t agree more (excluding your slightly racist suggestion to ‘go back to Italy’), I was recently filming in Soho for my own dissertation and was similarly stopped by the police. Given 7/7 and the nail bombs that went off in Soho at the end of the 90’s, I fully expected this to attract some attention, and politely told the officers that I was filming purely for my degree and gave them details of my supervisor; they promptly went about their business…
…SBollicina, your attitude towards the officers SUCKED – there was no need to be so arsey and confrontational from the outset when the officers were just doing their job. I have a sneaking suspicion you’re using this episode (even instigated it) to attract media attention to spruce up your hackneyed and tedious arts project, a ploy that has clearly worked given the Guardian’s compliant coverage of this banal event.
That same day I was stopped before in another place by a security… At times you can get tired when they do not let you alone, maybe just because you wear a Palestinian scarf… I do not care about my artistic project: that’s why I didn’t say “I am filming because I am an art student”… I make videos because I feel like filming and that’s all… I do not care about fame and success. I talked to the guardian just because I felt really voiceless in comparison to the police usual violence….
I think you were lucky enough to be handled by some nice reasonable police people. Don’t you think the police overstepped the mark a little bit here though? They shouldn’t be able to just man-handle anyone and arrest them for no reason. This behavior is not acceptable. The job of police is supposed to be making us feel safe; not blindly accusing people of terrorism and assaulting them when they get defensive. This girl did nothing wrong and you are a fool
this filmaker is a disrespectful smartass. Police are here to help, show AT LEAST as much respect as they give you.
SMARTASS:I hope I am quite smart… and everybody with a head also owns an ass!But I am not English and I do not get what you mean!I never used insulting words with the police!sorry if I can be irritating but thanks god there are no laws against that! police did not helped me unfortunately: they were violent without any reason. And this is not the first time. If I told my story to the world is because I thought it could generate an open discussion to improve things, not insulting comments!PEACE!
your government takes away your right to defend yourself and then the right to record them…id be worried
I can’t believe people waste Police time by making these stupid videos. There is alot of tension in and around the UK because of recent terroists events and you need the Police to get on and do their job properly. After this hopefuly you may learn to grow up a little and respect those around you….?
@wingtsun20 which bit of the police doing their job properly involves hassling people with video cameras? The only person wasting the officers time is the officer himself.
Or is your suggestion that we should all just shut up and do whatever the nice community support officer tells us to?
Putting on a uniform does not mean you automatically deserve respect, your actions whilst wearing that uniform govern this.
It seems you were makin this intensely boring film to get a reaction from the police and thats what you got, then you complain………………….grow up!
Yeah, well he was probably like “Damn, this girl would not cooperate! I was only trying to find out if she was involved with all those crimes, and she didn’t have the mind to help me!”
