Here are clips of some of the Garda violence in their policing of the protests against Shell’s inland refinery at Bellanaboy in Mayo. These incidents occured between 2006 and 2009. Find more details at www.shelltosea.com The song is “Which side are you on?” written by Florence Reece and sung by Natalie Merchant
The Gardai are doing what the politicians want them to do if a protestor is killed the Garda will blame it on the crusties comming to commit violence on the gardai. licenced paramilitary thugs are answerable to no one.
When you have shares in these companies your financial rewards are at risk if you allow citizens to have human rights and justice. We live in a nation of coruption from top to bottom and the people that are not brutalised turn a blind eye.
This is political crime.
fucking thugs!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s high time people understood they’re only there to protect the state and its rich cronies. Shell chun sáile abú!
Maybe some day the Gardi will be met with their own violence and we will see if they like it..Guardians of the peace me hole……..
Hard to believe this is happening share this vid with everyone you know
How fucking delusional do you have to be to compare human rights abuses in Africa, South-East Asia, and the middle East, where people are dying, being butchered, raped en mass with a bit of pushing in Mayo.You need to get your priorities reassesed if you think they are even remotely comparable.
@fionn18 There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.Perhaps it’s good for one to suffer. Can an artist do anything if he’s happy? Would he ever want to do anything? What is art, after all, but a protest against the horrible inclemency of life? .Mayo people are protesting because its their right too.
@coirpeach1
Okay? how does that have anything to do with what I said about the author comparing Mayo with real human rights abuses?
“Can an artist do anything if he’s happy?” –> What has that got to do with anything? This is why I hate shell to sea, they exaggerate almost everything they say, not to say i’m a fan of Shell either but christ do they piss me off
@fionn18 What does it mean/,there is many meanings to it.Take out of it what you wish.As for Shell they should leave our country and we should be in control of all our natural resources.The Garda are supposed to protect the people of Ireland not protect multi million dollar companies from foreign lands.
@coirpeach1
The Corrib field is worth what, 9.7-12 billion? we sold it for about 7 billion in 2002, tax gained is said to be about 1.7 billion over its lifetime, though shell says its 3 billion but I’ll believe that when I see it. Thats 8.7 billion approx not that bad a deal in my opinion, and don’t start quoting figures from S2S, ideology for them is more important than giving impartial and correct facts. Ireland can’t extract gas/oil itself, its too expensive. And no I don’t work for shell
@fionn18 Its too expensive.I dont believe that for one minute.The politicians can go and wine and dine themselves of tax payers money but yet they cant invest into a project to use our own resources.There are plenty of engineers in Ireland that have worked abroad on gas and oil fields.They are willing to sell everything to to big business so they can pocket the money themselves.As for your 8.7 billion,the people of Ireland didnt see any good from that.
@coirpeach1
It doesn’t matter if the irish people saw the money or not ,shell bought the thing legally, we could take it back off them but we’d be dragged through the courts and have to pay out billions in damages. The Gov isint above the law. Anyway the thing is too expensive to do ourselves. 75 million to drill an exploration well, while off the irish coast you only have a 1 in 50 chance of striking oil/gas. In norway its a one in nine chance. It might not even be worth extracting
@fionn18 The government isnt above the the law are you having a laugh or what?The politicians in this country dont answer to anyone.They have robbed from the people of Ireland.Claiming massive expensive here and there.No wonder the country went broke.As buying the right legally,I think you will find that wasnt so legal.Yes of course the people of Ireland should benefit from this money,it should have been invested in poverty,schools and jobs,instead of corrupt politicians
@coirpeach1
Right, the thing was sold in 2002 and propably went into national infrastructure, I’m not sure but I think we had a budget surplus that year. But thats beside the point. How exactly was the sale illegal? Thats what you stated, illegal now, not morally reprehensible in your subjective eyes. As for why the country is in difficulty if you read the papers you’d know it is more than just a lack of regulation in Ireland, its a global issue.
@fionn18 Read the papers,the propaganda that the government tells the papers to write;but yes the world in in a economic crisis.Our country should not be as its so small.We have enough resources in this country to keep everyone going.Our fishing industry,farming,forestry and our gas.Politicians dont want the working class man to get on,they just want to keep big business in the loop so they get back handers,ie speculators and the likes.
i disslike this for the reason that the Gardai are family men and did what they did to protect a queen we fought for 800 years to rid ourselves of at the end of the day!!
Ive heard ireland has up to 3 trillion worth of natural oil and gas. shell is trying to rob it from us. we are one of the richest nations in the world but its been hidden from us. shell paid off the EU
When Fianna Fáil cancelled multinational energy companies’ obligation to pay royalties to the Irish people for extracting OUR resources, they made this situation, and all situations like it, a sovereign issue. That’s OUR fucking gas. Shell can go fuck themselves. We should have a national gas company, like Brazil does, extract the stuff ourselves and put the profits into our schools and hospitals. Not into Shell’s fucking bank account. Gardaà should be ashamed of themselves. Fascists.
fucking wankers, they shud all be charged for being traitors. SERVE AND PROTECT my arse. they too far up der own arse running round like mini-hitlers that they forget that they are irish just like the people there fighting againest, FUCKING MERCENARIES.
Well done to all the peaceful protesters. We in Mayo salute you. My only question is to the Gardai. Is this what I pay my taxes for?
BRAVE PEOPLE!!!!!!!
fuckin gards.. why are shell able to come in to our country and put a pipe line trough some1s feild without permission shows how our government sucking up to the british government..
Disgraceful. It seems to me that police around the world are so easily manipulated by government and money, they are not protectors of the people anymore.
somone should blow up the gas line with semtex
feck mayo
Go arrest Shell and their people for breaking laws, not just in Ireland but worldwide!
