Democracy and freedom of the press isn’t quite what it should in post 1984 New Labour Britain as police push their new powers to ever further excess during ‘Sack Parliament’ on the 9th October 2006. See also www.sackparliament.org.uk and www.indymedia.org.uk
Open borders? Tricky topic to be honest, I don’t mind people migrating to the UK, as long as they are here to work hard, learn British values and respect them, learn to speak the most basic English and most importantly not to commit crime. Working hard and not commiting crime represents a large majority of migrants, especially those who fill the positions that British people don’t want e.g seasonal positions on farms etc.
However, a lot of migrants are failing to learn English and integrate into our society. It’s the same problem with those English people who emigrate to places such as Spain, they also fail to integrate into the Spanish society. Therefore for these reasons I believe that some people should stay in their own countries.
Certainly with open border policies, people should not be stopped from traveling or visiting but should certainly be stopped if they are planning to reside in a country where they plan not to follow the rules of that country. Sorry it was so long ;)
Don’t apologize, that was the most intelligent response I’ve seen in youtube since I’ve been using it.
They seriously thought they’d get into Parliament? And wonder why such a heavy police presence in the heart of our legislative power?
Just because they have a camera, does not make them a ‘journalist’. How is an officer supposed to make the distintion? Ah, with a press pass. If you do not have one, you will be treated like everyone else there; a demonstrator. Many of which were told they could not do so for obvious security reasons.
Problem? See your local MP, that’s THEIR job.
If this was an illegal demonstration (ie they had not applied for and received approvla from the police and local authorities) they are committing an offence and knew that before they arrived – why are they surprised the police officers have to enforce the law and then are subjected to abuse and intimidation – the demonstrators were asking for trouble.
Freedom of Speech seems to costs seems to cost you your freedom…? That’s a high cost… That’s not what we went to War for. The police are nothing but a Money making company now, there nolonger on the peoples side.
Did you even watch the video? If you did, I am surprised you missed the Sky News crew being handed a leaflet telling them that they were taking part in an unlawful assembly. You apparently also missed various card carrying photo journalists (including staff photographers for national papers) being escorted from the square after having their details taken.
You don’t need approval to demonstrate in this country (although it’s heading that way). In the case of an area around parliament you do now need to inform the police in advance. But that’s all pretty irrelevant since the film is about the way the police abused their powers by treating the press as participants in the protest.
krunchedup you have a point ONLY to the part that the police have to enforce the law that passed from the politicians. You need approval to demonstrate your needs? Is this police state similar to the police in the film V for Vendetta? I think only the UK has this ‘democratic’ legislation. In my opinion is not the police the main problem as they are a part of the chain following orders from the politicians we elect.
Are we satisfied by their represantation and how the political system works or people should find ways to be more involved in the decision-making?
bloody labour, britain is a democratic country always will be, police are just corrupt pussies same as the government.
The attourney Generals written legal advice on the war in Iraq is that it is illegal. Tony Blair verbally stated that he changed his mind 10 day later however this is the hearsay of a liar. Any action to protest a goverment guilty of war crimes is legitimate action. Well done everbody the Police should act on the advice of the highest legal power in the land and Arrest Tony Blair.
Hello? Its a demonstration. We are not asking for permission!
At the end those people arent obligated to comply unless they are in breach of law. Those officers are trying to enforce a statute, to opt out, you just don’t comply with their questioning – theyre public servants.
gutwrenchingly sickening!!
totally ashamed to be british, if this was france or s.america, those cops would have been linched

Off course it is all bolloocks, they are working for a corporate firm the UK Government Plc. Anythig tomake the government money. It is not against the law to film in public, the Head of themet police already stated this. Officers are going way over thier boundaries of interpeding the Law.
