Anyone who was a huge fan of CHiPs, or even those who watched the series irregularly, could not be more excited about the upcoming release of Season Two of CHiPs on DVD. The release is set for early June of 2008, so this seems like a perfect time to recap some of the best episodes from season two. Here are two of the highlight episodes from season two of the 70s TV show CHiPs:
1. Disaster Squad- This episode opens up with two strange men having an argument about an unknown topic. One of men in the fight gets extremely angry and proceeds to storm off, but as he is driving, he crashes into many of the other cars on the freeway. After a bumpy and dangerous ride on the freeway, the man finally crashes his own car which is when Ponch and Jon arrive at the scene. The man becomes so enraged by everything that has happened that runs over to the edge of the bridge and threatens to jump. Practically out of nowhere, the Channel 3 news crew, notoriously known as the disaster squad, show up and start instigating the situation and encouraging the man to jump.
Ponch starts yelling at the leader of the crew to stop egging him on, but as he is yelling back the leader falls and Ponch runs over to help him up. As Ponch is helping him up he tells him that if he does not stop this nonsense then he will throw him in the slammer. Coincidentally, this is all recorded by the mans camera that is still rolling. Cut to the end of the episode and the channel 3 news crew is broadcasting the footage and it makes it seem like Ponch was involved in a case of police brutality. This is one of the most memorable episodes of the TV show CHiPs.
2. Trick or Trick- The episode starts with Ponch and Jon on patrol chasing a van through the streets that is heading into a film studio. As soon as the van comes to a stop, the most bizarre thing happens, 13 black cats spill out of the vehicle and go every which way. Jon gives the driver of the van a ticket, but he is too preoccupied trying to round up all of the cats.
Throughout the day at the station, Ponch inadvertently walks under a ladder, cuts himself while shaving with an electric razor and breaks the mirror in his locker. Ponch starts to feel really superstitious and elsewhere, a woman is cloaking herself like a ghost to rob a bank. Many other silly and unlucky things take place during the course of the episode and at the end we find out it was all just a Happy Halloween episode.
These two episodes represent a good cross section of the 70s TV show CHiPs and serve as a good explanation as to why it had such a strong fan base. Fortunately, the fans will get to relieve every wonderful memory with the season two CHiPs on DVD.
