When terrorists flew a plane into the World Trade Center were they expecting that the US to go to bed? Reminds of the Japanese attacking Pearl Harbor in WW2. i think you may confuse the actions of a few individuals with the country as a whole. imagine if a few, rogue individuals who happened to live in the US for a while bombed a chinese embassy killing many innocent civilians. should the chinese be able to declare war on the US because they were attacked?? are they justified in killing thousands of americans in retaliations even if the US had nothing to do with the attack?
is that sort of terrorism and murder justified?

it seems to me that, like you say, war is unfortunate and mostly civilians are the ones who pay the price.
in that case, the answer is simple: stop warring. the whole premise of this afghanistan war doesn’t make sense to me.
al qaeda is not afghanistan. the afghani people are innocent, and it’s not justice if you target them.
imagine if you punched me in the face… and i retaliate by beating your wife, kids, and everybody in your family. that makes no sense.
