How To Speed Up Your Thyroid to Lose Weight

Grapefruit

There was once a popular grapefruit weight loss diet. Well, while there are certainly nutrients that our bodies need and can’t get from grapefruit alone, a recent study by the Nutrition and Metabolic Research Center at Scripps Clinic found that grapefruit in your diet can really facilitate weight loss.

Here’s how it works:

It seems to have something to do with composition of the grapefruit. It has a low glycemic index and high fiber and water. Because of this, you can eat tons of grapefruit and you won’t be adding very many calories. Not only that, you will feel full after you eat it.

A low glycemic index means that blood sugar stays relatively stable after eating this fruit, keeping hunger in check for longer periods of time.

Even if you’re on another diet, grapefruit really helps you keep this in check because it curbs your appetite so that you’re not tempted to cheat. And of course you can “pig out” on them without consuming all the calories.

The basic theme here to focus on is this: High Fiber, Low Glycemic. And really glycemic index is just dieters’ nonsense. Just don’t eat carbohydrates that are refined or processed. The manufacturing process destroys the fiber and breaks down the carbs into sugar that converts into blood glucose too quickly. So you don’t have to have a stats chart just to figure of if what you’re eating is good for you.

Studies specifically done on grapefruit have also shown that a grapefruit helps you lose weight more than other foods with an equally high fiber and low glycemic index. So for whatever reason, it is especially effective.

A Scripps Clinic study tested weight and metabolism over 12 weeks and saw that those who ate a half grapefruit before lost and average of 3.6 pounds. Researchers concluded that a chemical within the fruit helps lower insulin levels.

This brings in the importance of it’s use in people with diabetes and hypothyroidism. You see a lower insulin level means that your body is turning your food into energy, and not storing it as fat.

Remember, losing weight is about 2 simple things that food manufacturers don’t want you to know (because all there food is high glycemic index):

#1 Reduce calories (do this by eating high fiber foods that fill you up), and

#2 Increase energy (do this by any means possible, but specifically by eating high nutrients foods, like raw foods)
